Last Week was Nothing

Last week I showed you a counter full of tomatoes. Well, last week pales in comparison to this week. I couldn't even get them on the counter this week.

I brought in two of these:

It was pretty awesome. We've processed them all too. I'll share that later this week.

Here are the totals:

Believe it or not, I've already started my fall tomatoes (Aunt Lou's Underground Railroad, Brandywine, Amish Paste, Rutgers, and Indigo Rose):

As you can see in the weather chart (right sidebar), we have officially hit 100 degree weather and it will stick around at least until mid-August. So I don't expect much more from my toms; I see very few new blooms. We had a great year! No insect problems and no disease; but they are declining. Oh well, such is life....the next generation has been preserved:

  1. WOW! How many tomato plants do you have, anyway???? While our 100+ degree days may make the tomato blossoms drop without fruit, the plants usually continue to grow strong, so when the weather begins to cool off a bit I usually just prune and thin out the plants, then they put out new growth and blossoms and set more fruit for the fall.

    1. I have 9 Cherokee Purple (I planted more bc I read that they were low yielding and they are in comparison), 2 Black Cherry, but only one is putting out, 2 Roma, 3 Celebrity, and 2 Heinz. They are all just really healthy.

  2. That is a whole lot of tomatoes! What will you make with them all? Oh and I love the pattypan squash. Next year I am going to start some of those ahead so I can make sure I get some growing good before putting them in the garden.

  5. Wow what a great harvest. The 100 degree days have hit us really early this year and I'm worried about my tomatoes. I hope it cools down so that we can get some fruit to set!

  6. Nice tomato harvest! I need to plant more next year so I have enough to preserve- that will be so nice to have homegrown sauce and salsa when the tomatoes are long gone.

  7. Excellent tomato harvest and I love your harvest wheelbarrow. :D

Your harvests for the week was really good in addition to the tomatoes.

  8. It would be lovely to fill a wheelbarrow with tomatoes. I'm sowing tomato seed at the moment too - or I will be in a week or, still deliberating about varieties - always a fun task.

  9. Oh my goodness! What an amazing haul!!! I don't believe that our tomatoes will ever put out a feast like that (it's too dry here and our nights get pretty cool) but you are quite the inspiration!
